Sad cancer movies on netflix8/18/2023 She’s admitted searching “immunotherapy” to try and learn more about her treatment. Lastly, she can stop watching movies that may be related to cancer by researching beforehand. This is easier said than done I don’t remember the last time I rated one. Next, she can manually rate her movies after watching them. She must do this from her desktop computer. So instead, I’ve studied how Netflix’s system works and figured out a few workarounds to reduce the number of films about cancer in my mom’s recommendations.įirst, my mom can clear her viewing history by logging into her account and individually deleting all of the cancer movies she’s watched in the past. It was an awkward conversation, like most about cancer, and I didn’t even get an apology. ![]() The rep stumbled through telling me that there was no way to filter or block content by topic, only filter by genre. I asked if it was possible to filter out movies about cancer. I visited Netflix’s online support docs and also contacted a support rep over the phone. Together these create a complex recommender system that helps make Netflix successful.Įven though my mom is doing great with her treatment, the news of her crying watching a movie about cancer threw me. Content-based filtering sorts using data about the film like genre and actors. Collaborative filtering works by analyzing a user’s past views and finds movies similar users watched. Netflix’s films are recommended using machine learning techniques, such as collaborative filtering and content-based filtering, to create recommendations for over 100 million movies. In the past I probably would’ve loved to watch these films. Search Google for cancer movies and you’ll find results like, “23 Sad Movies on Netflix That Will Make You Feel Again”. Morbid curiosity is very human and common. I’m not faulting filmmakers for creating realistic stories. My parents didn’t even make it half way through before turning it off. This weekend Amazon Prime Video suggested the movie, A Little Bit of Heaven.
